Course

The Specializing Master in Design and art for a responsible social transformation, thanks to the collaboration between POLI.design and the Accademia Unidee of the Fondazione Pistoletto Onlus, provides an innovative approach that integrates techniques and methods of design to the sensitivity of art to decline the social and environmental commitment in every profession and product sector.

The training program consists of theoretical, methodological and design tools based on design thinking and on humanistic and social elements, as well as on StrategicDesign and its applications on a territorial and social scale, on the arts of critical thought, on notions of forms of the contemporary economy and organization, on Participatory Governance models suitable for complex and continuou schange contexts.

The Master is an immersive collective experience, aimed at providing the skills of teamwork, making use of the collaboration with Italian companies, organizations and international organizations in the fieldof Social Innovation and Social Engagement.

Attendance

At the end of the course, upon passing the final exam, the first level Master’s degree of the Politecnico di Milano will be awarded in “Design and art for a responsible social transformation” with an attendance rate of more than 75%.

The Specializing Master has a weekend format (Friday to Sunday) and two intensive modules (lasting 6/7 days) dedicated to workshops and/or project work.

How to accompany social transformation in a responsibleand sustainable way?

How to help public and private organizations in innovating to face the challenges of contemporaneity?

It is necessary for everyone to rethink the way they work, they plan, they grow. There orientation rests on the knowledge that prosperity (in individuals, business and community) depends on the equilibrium relationships between local and global ecosystems, short and long term impacts, user communities, producers, citizens, legal systems and the unprecedented scenarios of the media and the technology.

Challenges that were brought to light by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals and that companies and single organizations must face and require new professional figures capable of interpreting the present and designing solutions e innovative visions for organizations.

The Specializing Master is dedicated to people who want to acquire the necessary skills to lead the transformation of organizations (public and private, profit and non-profit) that understood how social, environmental and economic responsibility are today real opportunities for development and growth. The Master integrates tools and methods of design, able to translate expressed or latent needs into strategic visions and concrete solutions, with the interpretation and even radical innovation of the art to understand the challenges of the contemporary, with knowledge of social economy and business design.

The Master was conceived and developed with the Fondazione Pistoletto, that has been training facilitators of social transformation through art since the 1990s and its objective is to provide methods, tools and approaches for the analysis of complex problems up to to the conception, development and implementation of solutions and strategies.

Didactic Plan

The Master is divided into three macro-areas:

  • Design, Art and Change;
  • Social Dynamics and New Organizations;
  • Economics and Sustainable Innovation.

The educational path is organized in:

  • lessons aimed at acquiring the basic theoretical-methodological principles for studying the context, of the approaches of design and art for the social impact and for the development and the implementation of the projects/enterprise;
  • in-depth analysis of methods, tools and best-practices and development of theoretical-practical activities;
  • design and verification experiences, during which the focus will be on the integration of the skills and competences acquired, through the developmentof project-works on topical issues and/or on concreterequests by subjects involved in the Master.

The final exam will consist in a presentation of the professional practice developed during the internship or of the individual project work provided by theMaster Board.

Title Released

At the end of the course, upon passing the final exam, the first level Specializing Master’s degree of the Politecnico di Milano will be awarded in “Design and art for a responsible social transformation”.

Employment Opportunities

The Master in Design and art for a responsible social transformation aims to create professional figures by integrating design and creative skills with strategy and evaluation skills of the transformative generated impact.

The program prepares students to become social innovators, valuing their academic and professional background of the participants and providing them with skills to operate in key roles for the transformation of organizations towards directions of social responsability. At the end of the course, graduates will be able to:

  • provide consultancy and strategic planning on issues such as sustainability, organization and corporate social responsibility (CSR);
  • designing service solutions with a social impact through co-planning and participatory planning;
  • stimulate, activate and manage community activation processes.

Graduates will be able to fill positions of creation and management of sustainability projects and social innovation by operating:

  • in the corporate world as sustainability managers, corporate social responsibility managers and social innovation managers
  • in creative-cultural industries as cultural managers for sustainable development;
  • in the public administration as managers of cultural innovation projects, and of social inclusion and territorial development project or as consultants for social, environmental and territorial well-being policies;
  • in thethird sector as facilitators of shared processes for communities and welfare community managers.

They may also be promoters of new business ideas with a social impact.

Admission

Requirements

The Specializing Master is addressed in particular to professionals.

In order to take part in the selection candidates should possess a Bachelor or Master’s Degree or a Academic Diploma of First or Second Level in Industrial Design, Architecture, Engineering, Economics, Politics, Sociology,Philosophy, Communication and Arts.

For candidates possessing study titles achieved abroad, equivalent titles will be taken into consideration for the selection.

Candidates will be selected on the basis of their professional and study path and of the motivation letter that are required to provide. Moreover, a selection interview is foreseen.

Deadlines

To take part to the selection process, the application form must be completed online within the following deadlines:

  • EU/non-EU who graduated in Italy / EU citizens with qualification gained abroad within July 25, 2024;
  • Non-EU citizens who graduated abroad within June 14, 2024.

Price

The total cost of the Master is 9.000 €: 500 € are for the matriculation to Politecnico di Milano and 8.500 € are for the application to the Master.
