The Prof. Venanzio Arquilla speech during the Fujitsu Activate Now global event.
How is the world of design evolving and what are the new challenges facing companies?
Read the opinion of Prof. Venanzio Arquilla, during the Global Fujitsu Activate Now event held on April 21, 2020.
As the world enters a new era of uncertainty, addressing fundamental corporate challenges – such as reinventing business models, increasing speed and agility, and delivering genuine customer-centricity throughout an organization – has never been more critical.
What’s more, as business complexity grows exponentially and competitiveness is increasingly underpinned by rapidly changing digital technology, organizations are finding it ever harder to find a path towards innovative solutions that deliver genuine value. As a result, radical new ways of approaching these problems must be adopted.
This is the view of Venanzio Arquilla, associate professor at the Design Department of the Politecnico di Milano, and coordinator of the Experience Design Academy at POLI.design, which functions as the prestigious Italian university’s interface with the business world, professional organizations and numerous other institutions.
“What has changed is the objective of design.”
“Previously, design was typically related to product. But, today, design has become a transversal discipline that can cover every field by placing the user at the center of your thinking, and by giving value to social elements, as well as new business model opportunities. It is no longer limited to a specific office; it is a way of thinking that can be integrated into all of the organization.”
