POLI.design – Politecnico di Milano is proud to announce its collaboration with the prestigious Kering Group and the World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO) for the launch of the Kering Generation Award X Jewelry.
The Award, coordinated by POLI.design, the consortium of Politecnico di Milano, Italy’s leading technical university, involves 10 world-renowned universities and academies with courses on jewelry and sustainability and supports visionary start-ups across the world showcasing excellence in sustainable design and jewelry-making practices.
This initiative draws inspiration from Boucheron, one of Kering’s jewelry brands, a Maison known for its innovative spirit, that has pushed creative boundaries since 1858. Boucheron’s Creative Director, Claire Choisne honors this legacy by constantly questioning the notion of preciousness, exploring unconventional materials or techniques. This audacious vision materialized in September 2022 with an Innovative Capsule using Cofalit®. Obtained by upcycling industrial waste through a unique vitrification process, Cofalit® is the most recycled matter there is, and has been dubbed “final material”. Many months of research and processing were needed to transform it into a material worthy of fine jewelry, and one that met Boucheron’s exacting standards of excellence and precision. Claire Choisne elevated this waste into precious jewelry, demonstrating that beauty and value can emerge from the most unexpected sources.
Through this Kering Generation Award X Jewelry, the latest expansion of an initiative first introduced by the Group in 2018, Kering is committed to championing creativity, fostering responsible innovation, and driving impactful change across the jewelry sector.
